Interview with Islam Bisayev ahead of Cage Kings

Amicable fighter Islam Bisayev sat down to talk with Fightstore Media ahead of his 75kg bout with Liam McGill on March 26 at Cage Kings.

For anyone who hasn’t seen Bisayev compete before, this is what you can look forward to.

He said: “For those who haven’t seen me in Ireland (my) two fights in the last three in the UK were stoppages, so I’m hoping to get the business done as early as possible and get out of the cage.”

If that’s the case, his opponent Liam McGill ought to be wary of a fast start filled with bad intentions.

Regarding his competitor, Bisayev said, “I tend not to worry about the opponent. My coach Paul Kelly tells me what to do exactly and I just do what I’m told. As long as I’m ready and my fitness is right, that’s the end of it, it doesn’t make any difference who’s on the other side.”

It wasn’t all fight talk from Bisayev, however, who stated he doesn’t want to be known just for his fists.

“You want to be remembered as being a good fighter but firstly as a good person. Being a role model is the most important to me,” he stated.

It’s no surprise that one of his inspirations is Muhammad Ali, particularly because, as Bisayev noted, what he acvhieved as a person.

What advice would Bisayev give to a young fighter?

He said: “I would say make sure you find a right coach. Then you will have the guidance. Without the right coach you won’t get far. Be dedicated, work hard and you will see the rewards soon.”

Bisayev’s main role model isn’t the former heavyweight King, Ali, but someone much closer to home.

“I got into (Muay Thai) because of my brother. Since I was ten he has been my role model,” added Bisayev, who’s brother Aslan, is known as a former Irish champion who has set up his own gym in Austria.

To conclude, Islam Bisayev chatted about his favourite thing about living in Ireland.

“The people,” began Bisayev. “When I travel to Austria, France, Spain or Turkey, I realise the difference straight away, after a week in Austria I was like ‘damn I want to go back’. Even though the weather is really bad here, the people are amazing. It’s always a friendly atmosphere. The best thing is the people and you only realise that when you leave the country.”
