Fightstore Media’s Top 5 Fights of the Night – Cage Kings Cork

  1. Wayne Cambridge (Siam Warriors) vs Liam McGill (Muay Eire Siam) – Cage Kings 72.2 kg Title

The sheer resilience and heart displayed by both fighters made this fight of the night. It was all-out war which went to a fourth-round title decider when they couldn’t be separated in normal time. Neither man willing to take a step back, it was an intense spectacle of Caged Muay Thai which had the audience on their feet.

It became a bloodbath in Neptune Stadium, both men suffering lacerations but neither willing to acknowledge them for a second. Two warriors and veterans who left it all in the cage and gave the fans an enthralling, exciting encounter. Cambridge dug deep to out-score the relentless McGill in the final round and lift the Cage Kings 72.2 kg title.

  1. Martin Horgan (Siam Warriors) vs Aaron Browne (Lionheart)Cage Kings 70 kgs Title

Aaron Browne and flying knees? It’s safe to say that Lionheart’s newest addition has been learning fast and he showcased his skills Saturday night. The atmosphere in Cork intensified as both men made the walk to the cage. It was the one we’d all been waiting for and it certainly lived up to the hype.

Horgan started brightly and even seemed to have the upper-hand against Browne in the opening exchanges; and at one point it looked like he had him rocked. But Browne recovered quickly, using his power and aggression to pin Horgan against the fence in the second. He landed a flying knee, followed by nasty elbows to Horgan’s head which turned the tide in his favour. His elbows began to find a home and dually ended proceedings in the second-round.

“Boom Boom” made a clear statement in the 67-70 kg bracket with his second-round stoppage of Horgan. He put together a slick performance to claim the Cage Kings 70 kg title.

  1. Ryan Sheehan (Siam Warriors) vs Nestor Rodriguez (Spain) – A-Class International Muay Thai

There’s a reason why Ryan Sheehan is a world champion. His performance against Rodriguez was phenomenal; fighting back from a first-round loss to win comfortably. His Spanish opponent tested his character in opening exchanges, landing a thumping head kick and raced into an early lead. Rodriguez’s quick footwork and shot selection were excellent and he opened up a laceration on Sheehan’s forehead in the second-round with an elbow, a first for the champ in 10 A-Class fights.

Sheehan got the measure of him in the third and adapted his game to halt his dominance. The young Siam Warriors fighter had weathered the storm and now it was his turn to display his talent. In the fourth-round he caught Rodriguez with a shot to the body that rocked him, gaining momentum with every exchange. The Spaniard was hurt and Sheehan let his hands fly to close out the fight and take a deserved victory. Sheenhan must now be among the pound-for-pound best fighters in Ireland.

  1. Dean Murphy Crea (Samson) via Keith Wall (Courage)– Full Thai Rules 53.5 kgs

Two young fighters early in their professional careers but they delivered an outstanding fight. Murphy Crea took the first-round easily, delivering several strong elbows to Wall’s head which left an open wound. Wall had a mountain to climb but like most Courage fighters he regained composure and took the fight to his opponent in the second.

It was an inspired fight back but Murphy Crea was in fine form and fought smartly to combat his aggression. Wall’s intensity and pressure had given him a route back into contention but Murphy Crea continued to get the better of him in their exchanges. An excellent victory for the Samson fighter on the biggest stage.

  1. Cian Hurley (Siam Warriors) vs Phillip Nee (Westside Thai) – B-Class 58 kgs

Hurley continues to grow as a fighter with every performance. He was exceptional on his way to a third-round TKO victory over Nee. The Siam Warriors combatant dominated the bout in the opening round by punishing Nee against the cage with shots to the body. Fast hands and controlled aggression placed him in a strong position going into the second.

Nee started brightly and regained some composure but this was not to be his night. Hurley settled back into his rhythm and upped the tempo to put him against the fence. The referee was forced to step in and call a stoppage half way through the final round as Nee struggled against his ferocity.
