Date and Venue announced for Jamie Conlan’s next fight
Jamie Conlan will return to the National Stadium on the 6th February 2016 on Box Nation’s ‘Clash of the Clans’ show.
The Belfast man nicknamed ‘The Mexican’ fought his previous two bouts at the home of Irish boxing.
Last July he outpointed Junior Granados in a compelling battle, with moments of adversity and triumph for the super flyweight.
The MGM fighter then made lighter work of Adrian Dimas Garzon with a fourth round stoppage to retain his WBO intercontinental title in November.
It should be an opportunistic year for Conlan. The 29 year old has made it clear that he wants to meet former world champion Paul Butler in the ring.
Butler is competing in Manchester this Saturday night against Silvio Olteanu. If Butler and Conlan come through their next outings victorious and unscathed, a match-up between them is expected as the pair chase for a world title.
Conlan, who holds a perfect record of 15 victories as a professional, gave some insight to Fightstore Media before his last contest about the emotions he feels immediately after a fight.
“The first thing is relief, no matter the result. People don’t realise that,” Conlan said.
“It’s not like football players, its 12 weeks of stress preparing. You can’t eat certain foods and you’re not living a normal life.
“We have one night to perform and look good whereas footballers have every week to impress. It doesn’t matter if we look good for 12 weeks, you’re only judged on that one night.”
Dublin lightweight Jamie Kavanagh will continue his progression in Ireland with another encounter at the National Stadium on the same night.
25 year old Kavanagh (20-1-1) has spent the majority of his career in America but in November he returned to his home country to TKO Hungarian Oszkar Fiko in the seventh round.
Can Conor McGregor and Muhammad Ali be compared?
