Chris Eubank Jr. overcomes ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan in explosive encounter
Chris Eubank Jr. beat Gary O’Sullivan tonight after the Cork man’s corner retired their fighter at the end of round seven in London.
It was a war while it lasted.
Eubank landed some crushing uppercuts throughout the proceedings. ‘Spike’ proved his resilience by staying on his feet.
In round three the Brighton man rocked O’Sullivan who still managed to respond with flush left hooks.
Like his famous father, Chris Eubank Jr. showcased his ability to take a punch.
From round four onwards it turned into a one sided blow out. The ferocious pace seemed to have caught up with O’Sullivan.
Trainer Paschal Collins sensibly pulled his Celtic Warriors man out of the bout at the end of round seven as O’Sullivan returned groggily to his corner.
Eubank now has 21 victories with just one defeat, which came against Billy Joe Saunders (who challenges Andy Lee for the middleweight crown next week).
But Eubank has responded smartly since that devastating loss. He recruited trainer Adam Booth to his corner and has three wins on the spin.
He is now the mandatory challenger for WBA regular champion Daniel Jacobs, who is fresh from his destruction of Peter Quillin in round one last weekend.
It was a tough night for Gary O’Sullivan but he was courageous in battle and gracious in defeat.
