Cage Legacy Preview: Who will walk the walk? [Part One]
Tensions are high with trash-talking already prominent ahead of the Cage Legacy Fighting Championship at the T.L.T Theatre, Drogheda on October 28.
Norman Parke and Decky Dalton headline the MMA event, a pro lightweight clash between two of the most recognisable mixed martial artists in Ireland.
The Ultimate Fighter The Smashes victor, ‘Stormin’ Norman Parke, who achieved a 5-3-1 record in the UFC, has stated that a meeting with Decky Dalton would be an “easy fight” that forces Dalton to retire from for the “tenth time”.
Dalton [7-1] fired back on social media with disparaging comments aimed at Parke’s judo, kicking and boxing skills.
At BAMMA 24 in February ‘The Diamond’ Dalton was tremendous as he beat Mike Cutting with poise and patience following a four year absence from competing.
Since then he has lost to Gary Morris after a cut enforced a stoppage.
Parke holds an acclaimed pro record of 23-5-1 and his bout with Dalton provides Irish MMA fans an opportunity to see the former UFC competitor fight live.
This main event has all but guaranteed a worthwhile spectacle, and we haven’t even mentioned the other fights yet.
Cage Legacy’s co-main event has equal spite between the two combatants who will settle their taunts in the octagon.
Irish combat enthusiasts will be introduced to American Rolando Dominique, who now trains in Full Power Gym, when he faces well known John Redmond in a pro middleweight encounter.
“You’re digging yourself a grave with your tongue, young man,” was the warning issued by Dominique to Redmond online.
Another showdown where the war of words has started; and we are still three months away from fight night.
Experienced MMA fighter Redmond has accused his upcoming opponent of only fighting “bums”.
Team Ryano’s Redmond dispatched Modestas Bukauskas in round one at Cage Warriors 77 this month to obtain his first win since 2013.
American Dominique has talked a strong game, promising Redmond: “Fighting me is something you will never forget. Win or lose. You’ll know you’ve been in a fight.”
In September Redmond will feature on BAMMA against Glenn Irvine before he encounters Dominique in October which is quickly developing into a rivalry.
Dominique recently spoke with Fightstore Media.
Asked about John Redmond, he said: “Honestly I haven’t been too impressed with his last few fights but you never know in this sport, the guy could come out swinging and do whatever he wants so you have to take every opponent seriously.
“But I haven’t been impressed with any of his fights, we’ve watched quite a bit of film on him, we think we’ve got his weaknesses down, we’re not super impressed and we think we’ve got the edge in this one.”
Cage Legacy Fighting Championship has confirmed that the show will be approved by SafeMMA.
Tickets are €30 for standard, €40 cage side and €50 VIP.
Part two of our Cage Legacy preview will discuss the other fighters on the bill, including the explosive Brazilian Jeanderson Castro as well as the announcement that Alex Masuku will also perform.
Soon the talking will stop and we will see who walks the walk. Norman Parke or Decky Dalton? John Redmond or Rolando Dominique?
We find out October 28.
