Boxing Masterclass By Kellie Harrington to advance to World Championship Final
Dubliner Kellie Harrington outclassed Canadian Sara Kali in the semi-finals of the World Championships in Astana today.
Harrington, who is on the verge of becoming the first Irish female other than Katie Taylor to win a world championship gold medal, boxed splendidly every round.
She is the fifth senior boxer in Ireland to reach the final of the world championships.
The slick switch hitter confused her opponent and popped out her right hand successfully at will.
This was Harrington’s first major championship and she is just 26 years of age.
Unfortunately her weight class (light welterweight) isn’t competing in the Olympic Games but the future is bright for this countries newest star.
Ireland’s greatest male amateur boxer Michael Conlan tweeted: “So impressed with Kelly Harrington! World Semi final and won it with ease, this girl is going all the way!!! #AIBAstana2016 #TeamIreland”
